Cold and Wet winter days? Lets have some fun indoors!!

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Studio 6 photography

Ahaa. I know the weather hasn’t been too kind to us lately. Winter storms every now and then bringing blankets of snow and floodings. It gets a bit hard to get out in that sort of weather and take decent photographs. Ummmm not actually hard but a bit lazy? who gets out of the cosy warmth of their house and takes photographs right?

Dont worry we did not get out much either. Instead we thought why not lets have some fun indoors. That brings us to the picture shown below :

I had a fish tank which i was not using, so filled it up with some water and decided to do what you see above. This idea came to me while i was watching rain droplets falling into small puddles. why not try and get the splash going and capture it. All i needed was fish tank filled with water any type of fruit or solid vegetable and off camera flash light to light up the fruit or vegetable. I captured the capsicum falling into the water using high speed synchronisation with the flash light.

This playing with water was pretty cool stuff. Just a reminder that playing with water means that water will splash everywhere so be careful with you camera gear and also lay a plastic on the floor if you do it indoors.

Next we got into playing with smoke. No No No we did not smoke cigarettes and do not condone smoking. Instead we had incense sticks which produced all the smoke for us. Now on a serious note guys, please do not play with fire at home. Always have a spotter with a bucket of water if you are doing any experiments relating to fire. On the next few slides you will see how we got playing with smoke from the incense sticks. We did the smoke shots with a black background and used flash lights to light up the smoke. The reason for using a black background was so that we could invert colours in lightroom and give the smoke different colours.

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. We will be happy to tell you in detail how we set up our experiments. Have a good week ahead guys and if you want us to try something new for you let us know. We will try our best. Have fun and enjoy!

FYI : after all the cool stuff was done, I ended up cleaning the whole place 🙁

Lost and Found?

BOOOooo!!!!!

Hello folks. Sorry for being away for the past two weeks. The weather hasn’t been too great for us and family commitments had tied me down.

On the brighter side of being lost, i confirm that i have found myself and am back in action. While i was busy with other things i experienced something really weird i must say. I hadn’t taken a photo all this time and for some reason i was just going blank and blur and lost and umm you guys know what i mean by now right.

I could not take it any longer so decided to setup a studio in one of my spare rooms and just take a photo of anything that i could find.

Took out some of new born props and snap snap snapity snap i went. Oh the pleasure i got at that point was mind blowing.

Since I consider you all my extended family now, I will be introducing you all to my 2 kids. I must mention that they have been really naughty and cute at the same time.

Meet Tia (Aqua) and Tuktuk (Green). They are the 2 most happy and active children. Chirping and singing all day long with an occasional fly just over my head to make me duck. They get more excited when they see me bring my camera out. Im pretty sure that both of them start to pose for the limelight.

Tuktuk is a real poser and more active then Tia. Although Smaller, Tia does tend to bully Tuktuk a little.

Unfortunately this is all for this week folks. Lets hope the weather improves  and we get to go out more to take amazing photos. Keep warm and be energy wise.

Middle Earth…..Where it all began!

“You will have to do without pocket handkerchiefs, and a great many other things, before we reach our journey’s end, Bilbo Baggins. You were born to the rolling hills and little rivers of the Shire, but home is now behind you; the world is ahead.”

-Gandalf the Grey

Yes, we did visit the Middle of Middle Earth during our trip to Rotorua. For those who haven’t been to Hobbiton, pack your bags and get there soon as! The tour of Hobbiton started with the usual purchasing of tickets, house rules, etc. After a 2 minute bus ride from the tickets office through the Alexander family farm we saw a glimpse of the set.

Got off the bus and our lovely tour guide put us in a tight group and started telling us about The Shire. Through the narrow path we went and met with this majestic view of The Shire.

By the way, the garden you see right in front is a natural garden. There are gardeners in the set who actually keep the gardens as they were in the movie.

After taking a few photographs of The Shire from the bottom, we were taken through the steep cobblestone pathways and told about the whole set in detail. Its breathtaking how many hours of hardwork has been put in to build all the structures on the set.

An hour into the tour, unfortunately, it started to rain. In the hustle and bustle of the rain, I had to put my camera in the bag so that I could hold the umbrella for my beautiful wife. Of course I am a gentleman. We passed through The Shire and made our way to the Green Dragon.

This is the view we got of The Green Dragon while making our way down from the Famous Oak Tree above Bilbo Baggins House. If you are wondering what those white things are on the rolling hills behind The Green Dragon, they are sheep from The Alexander Farm.

As soon as we got to The Green Dragon we were served a cold Mug of Hobbiton Pale Ale, specially brewed for The Hobbiton Guests.

The Photograph at the bottom was taken from The Green Dragon.

The storm clouds were gathering and it was almost time to head back home, but not before taking the last shot of the Shire.

In the above photograph, the tree to the left of the middle tree is the famous Oak tree on top of Bilbo Baggins House. The oak tree is Completely made out of silicon and metal. The leaves are all made out of plastic. Managed to get one leaf as a souvenir. No i did not steal it. The lovely tour guide gave me one which had fallen off the Tree.

This concluded our trip to the Middle Earth.

Hope you all have a wonderful week ahead. Lets get behind the FIFA Under 20 World Cup and support our teams! I will be heading off to see Fiji Islands take on Uzbekistan in their group match on Sunday.
