Cold and Wet winter days? Lets have some fun indoors!!

Posted on Posted in Studio 6 photography

Ahaa. I know the weather hasn’t been too kind to us lately. Winter storms every now and then bringing blankets of snow and floodings. It gets a bit hard to get out in that sort of weather and take decent photographs. Ummmm not actually hard but a bit lazy? who gets out of the cosy warmth of their house and takes photographs right?

Dont worry we did not get out much either. Instead we thought why not lets have some fun indoors. That brings us to the picture shown below :

I had a fish tank which i was not using, so filled it up with some water and decided to do what you see above. This idea came to me while i was watching rain droplets falling into small puddles. why not try and get the splash going and capture it. All i needed was fish tank filled with water any type of fruit or solid vegetable and off camera flash light to light up the fruit or vegetable. I captured the capsicum falling into the water using high speed synchronisation with the flash light.

This playing with water was pretty cool stuff. Just a reminder that playing with water means that water will splash everywhere so be careful with you camera gear and also lay a plastic on the floor if you do it indoors.

Next we got into playing with smoke. No No No we did not smoke cigarettes and do not condone smoking. Instead we had incense sticks which produced all the smoke for us. Now on a serious note guys, please do not play with fire at home. Always have a spotter with a bucket of water if you are doing any experiments relating to fire. On the next few slides you will see how we got playing with smoke from the incense sticks. We did the smoke shots with a black background and used flash lights to light up the smoke. The reason for using a black background was so that we could invert colours in lightroom and give the smoke different colours.

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. We will be happy to tell you in detail how we set up our experiments. Have a good week ahead guys and if you want us to try something new for you let us know. We will try our best. Have fun and enjoy!

FYI : after all the cool stuff was done, I ended up cleaning the whole place 🙁
